The 1999-2004 Mustang GT and Cobra was a very exciting time in the world of the Ford Mustang. It was a generation of Mustangs that got owners back to the race track and inspired a new generation of at-home modifications and power upgrades. This generation was probably solely responsible for making the cat back exhaust system the most popular modification on personal vehicles.

1999 Mustang GT & Cobra

The year 1999 marked the release of a sharp new body style, and many other changes for the Mustang GT and the Cobra. This year was still based on the fox body platform, but the appearance of the car changed greatly from earlier models. The GT also got 35th anniversary badges, and the grille corral was back from the dead. GTs got the 4.6L 16-valve SOHC 260hp motor and the SVT Cobra dominated with a 4.6L 32-valve DOHC 320hp engine. Cobras also had round fog lights, and a sleek rear facing hood scoop.

2000-2002 Mustang GT & Cobra

In 2000, the appearance of the car went unchanged – minus the absence of the 35th anniversary badges. The GT remained practically the same as 1999, but the Cobra was only available as a SVT Cobra-R model that had a 385hp 5.4L engine. The Cobra returned in 2001 with a new interior and “COBRA” in the rear bumper cover where it once read “MUSTANG”. Otherwise, the GT and Cobra were nearly the same as the 1999 models. In 2002, the only Cobra owners were those lucky enough to live in Australia and who drove on the left side of the road.

2003-2004 Mustang GT & Cobra

The same year Mustang lost its main competition – the Firebird and Camaro- Ford resurrected the Cobra on American soil with a heart pounding 390hp supercharged engine. The powerful motor was backed by a 6-speed transmission. GTs received 40th anniversary commemorative badging in 2004, and the Cobras remained the same as 2003.

Stock control arms are marginal at best. Bushing deflection combined with control arm flex creates erratic handling and inconsistent rear end stability when subjected to the added loads of performance driving. BMR control arms are built using 1-5/8" x .120" DOM tubing and utilize 1/4" thick mounting plates for a bulletproof combination. Upper control arms are available in either fixed or adjustable versions. Adjustable uppers allow "on-car" adjustability by simply loosening the jamnuts and turning the adjuster. This allows you to adjust your pinion angle without unbolting the control arm, a convenience not offered by most other companies. These adjusters are by far the strongest in the industry. Made from 1-1/8" CNC machined steel and then zinc plated for corrosion resistance, they truly are overkill! Both upper and lowers are available with either polyurethane bushings or Teflon lined spherical bearings. With our variety of choices, we have control arms that are equally at home on the street, drag strip or road coarse. Available in Black Hammertone or red powdercoat.

Brake-Control Package, 1999-04 SOHC/DOHC Mustang

An SLP exclusive, this unit is designed to fit all 1999-2004 4.6 SOHC and 2003 DOHC Mustangs. Here's how it works: Press the brake pedal and flip the brake-control solenoid switch. Remove your foot from the pedal, and the solenoid maintains line pressure to the front brakes until the switch is released. This makes it easy to heat the rear tires in the burnout box, while minimizing wear and tear on your car's rear brake components. You can also use the system to prevent a manual-trans car from rolling out of the staging beams at the starting line.
