1998-2002 LS1 F-body

Photobucket
The mid-generation change in 1998 brought about one of the most talked about vehicles of all time - the LS1 f-body. Major transformations were made during this time including a totally new appearance and the gen III Chevrolet engine, the LS1. This engines was an instant hit amongst GM loyalist, and a cause of fear for all others. Because of its compact externals, it continues to be a popular engine used in retro swaps and conversions, even though the cars it was intended for are no longer in production. LS1 The LS1 is an engine that needs no introduction! Introduced originally as a Corvette motor in 1997, it was first used in f-bodies in 1998. The all-aluminum pushrod engine boasts a factory horsepower rating of 350hp and 365 lbs. ft. of torque. While the overall basics of the engine remained essentially the same, some of the years had variances. 1998 models were often referred to as being the practice run for the engine. They had cylinder heads with perimeter bolts and a casting that made it virtually impossible to port the heads at all. WS6 models had single exhaust, while other years were dual. The engine block had much smaller cylinder sleeves that could only be honed out .005". In 1998 the PCV valve was above the passenger side valve cover, the water pump gasket wasn't reusable (other years were), and the PCM was entirely different than other years. 1998 and 1999 year models shared some similarities that were different than other years. This included: -Smaller throttle body cam -Autos could be started in 2nd -More restrictive exhaust manifolds -EGR present on the intake The 1999-2000 models had smaller, 26 lbs injectors. 1999+ got a larger gas tank, heads with a new bolt pattern, new PCV system, better PCM, and oil life monitor. In 2000, the exhaust flowed better, the throttle body cam got bigger, and the air intake was greatly improved. In 2001 and 2002, a very few models were given LS1s planted in LS6 blocks. Intakes now had no EGR provisions, the 28 lbs. injectors returned, and manual transmissions got a Z06 clutch. 2002 head gaskets were redesigned so they were no longer side specific. 1998-2002 Camaro Z28 & SS In the middle of the fourth generation, the Camaro got a facelift to match the aggressive new LS1 engine. The bumper covers were changed out, and the car's lines were smoothed out. SS models got a sportier spoiler, and hood with a slightly induction style scoop. This was the last of the Camaro for many years as it went on a hiatus until it came back with a new platform in 2010. 1998-2002 Firebird Formula & Trans Am Beginning in 1998, the Firebird got a newly redesigned body in addition to its new, powerful engine. The car now had four lights in the pop up lights, a new front bumper cover, new rear bumper cover, and an overall curvier look. Formulas shared the same body as the base model Firebird, while the Trans Am had a body kit, different bumper cover, different running light positioning, and raised rear spoiler. This was the last era of the Firebird as it was cancelled by GM after disappointing sales in 2002.

BMR Fabrication 1982-2002 Camaro and Firebird - Chrome Moly Full Length Adjustable Torque Arm

BMR Fabrication 1982-2002 Camaro and Firebird - Chrome Moly Full Length Adjustable Torque Arm

Factory torque arms do a great job at robbing horsepower and torque and "dissolving" it into the chassis. Replace your weak, flexible stamped metal torque arm with a rigid BMR tubular version and put that power where it is supposed to be - the pavement! Made from MIG welded 1.25" x .120" tubing with heavy duty 1/4" mounting plates. Bolts directly in place of factory torque arm using all factory mounting locations. Requires no welding or drilling and clears all factory or aftermarket exhausts. The adjustable version comes equipped with a rear adjuster for adjusting pinion angle while the non-adjustable is preset at the optimal -2 degrees(in stock height applications). Both versions come with a new, low deflection polyurethane front mounting bushing. 1982-2002 V8 F-Body('82-'84 requires purchase of '85 or newer torque arm "clamshell" mount). Also fits all V6 F-body with one piece driveshafts. Available in Black Hammertone or red powdercoat.
