1993-1997 LT1 F-Body

1993 was the year that started it all - GM's the fourth generation Chevrolet Camaro and the fourth generation Pontiac Firebird. While the fourth generation had a major mid-generation in 1998, the earlier years produced some fierce machines.

The LT1

The second generation GM LT1 engine was a very popular motor in its time. This GM engine was a 350 cu in 5.7L V8, 2V pushrod design. The LT1 used a reversed cooling system made to cool the cylinder heads first in order to maintain low cylinder head temps - this allowed the engine to run at higher compression than previous engine designs.

All versions of the LT1 offered used a cast iron block. In the Firebirds, Camaros and Corvettes - the engine featured aluminum cylinder heads. The version in Firebirds and Camaros was a 2-bolt main - while the Corvette's LT1 had a 4-bolt main.

In the first year used in the f-body, the LT1 used a speed density fuel management, batch fire fuel ignition and ECM (engine control module) - but that changed to a mass air flow sensor and sequential port injection in 1994. The computer was also upgraded to include transmission controls and tuning access port - it was now called a PCM (powertrain control module).

A major discussion amongst the LT1 crowd has always been opti-spark- although not in a good way. The opti-spark distributor was positioned behind the water pump and crank - so changing the cap after 50,000 miles was a major mechanic's project. Because of the positioning, there were also major issues with moisture, debris and heat.

In 1996 a major change was made to engine as OBD II was introduced. Changes were made for the second converter and rear mounted oxygen sensors that monitored catalyst efficiency. 1997 was the last year this engine was used in f-body vehicles - '98 brought a major body and powertrain overhaul.

1993-1997 Camaro Z28& SS

The early fourth generation came with a 275hp LT1 engine and redesigned look from previous years. It maintained the 2-door coupe with hatchback, or 2-door convertible options like previous years but was finished out with a whole new appearance.

Z28 models were the base models of the V8 Camaro. SS models were offered as a slightly sportier, slightly faster upgrade of the Z28. It featured a less restrictive intake system, and less restrictive exhaust system. In 1997, the SLP SS came with a LT4 engine and six speed manual transmission.

1993-1997 Firebird Trans Am & Formula

Like the its f-body cousin the Camaro, the Firebird carried over the same basic visual aspects as previous years the two door coupe with hatchback and two door convertible were the available trim. The Formula shared the same body style as the base model Firebird, while the Trans Am had added ground effects, different running lights, and a raised spoiler.

BMR Fabrication 1982-2002 Camaro and Firebird - Chrome Moly Full Length Adjustable Torque Arm

BMR Fabrication 1982-2002 Camaro and Firebird - Chrome Moly Full Length Adjustable Torque Arm

Factory torque arms do a great job at robbing horsepower and torque and "dissolving" it into the chassis. Replace your weak, flexible stamped metal torque arm with a rigid BMR tubular version and put that power where it is supposed to be - the pavement! Made from MIG welded 1.25" x .120" tubing with heavy duty 1/4" mounting plates. Bolts directly in place of factory torque arm using all factory mounting locations. Requires no welding or drilling and clears all factory or aftermarket exhausts. The adjustable version comes equipped with a rear adjuster for adjusting pinion angle while the non-adjustable is preset at the optimal -2 degrees(in stock height applications). Both versions come with a new, low deflection polyurethane front mounting bushing. 1982-2002 V8 F-Body('82-'84 requires purchase of '85 or newer torque arm "clamshell" mount). Also fits all V6 F-body with one piece driveshafts. Available in Black Hammertone or red powdercoat.

BMR Fabrication 1993-1997 Camaro and Firebird - LT1 Throttlebody Water Bypass Kit

BMR Fabrication 1993-1997 Camaro and Firebird - LT1 Throttlebody Water Bypass Kit

GM cars circulate hot coolant through the throttlebody to prevent throttle blade icing in cold climate conditions. While this works great for it's intended purpose, not many of us drive our F-Bodies in the snow much! The cooler and denser the incoming air, the more power the engine can create. This kit allows you to bypass your throttlebody coolant passage to keep your incoming air as cool as possible. Save yourself the hassle of locating the hardware and use this pre-made kit instead. Includes billet aluminum adaptor, hose clamps and rubber dust caps to keep the throttlebody coolant passage clean if converted back later.
