2005-2010 Mustang GT

The beginning of the S197 era marked the start of some exciting changes for the Ford Mustang. No longer just another member of the muscle car pack, the new Mustang was ready to break ahead and smoother the competition. The fifth generation Ford Mustang GT was designed to be faster, safer, and better looking than ever before. Performance and handling were given a major upgrade, and the body was completely redesigned to be more unique than anything anyone had previously seen on the roads.

2005 Mustang GT

This is the year that marked the official start of the fifth generation for the Mustang. The new retro styling caught the attention of many right away. It featured c-scoops on the sides, three element taillights, and a half of foot added to the wheelbase. The Mustang GT was powered by a 3 valve 4.6L engine that pumped out an all-time Mustang GT high (at the time) 300 horsepower.

2006 Mustang GT

The 2006 was essentially a carryover year for the GT. Ford offered major changes for the V6 models, and this left V8 buyers a little discouraged. The only major changes were different packages and options were made available – mainly, there were now three new colors to choose from.

2007 Mustang GT

In 2007, the Mustang GT was joined by two new sub-models. In addition to the upgradable base model, Ford enthusiasts could now choose the GT California Special packages, or the GT Premium package. In addition to the new packages, the GT also got the option of having heated driver and passenger seats, a mirror with a compass, and DVD based navigational system.

2008 Mustang GT

People buying a Mustang GT in 2008 had a few more options than before, but no major changes were made to the design in this year. Ford now included HID, or High Density Discharge, headlights, and interior ambient system on all models. The Bullitt was also re-released in limited production, which was a special version of the Mustang GT.

2009 Mustang GT

2009 marked 45 years of production for the Mustang. Special features included the new glass roof top option as well as special 45th Anniversary badges. Satellite radio became standard with all premium interior models. No major performance upgrades were made.

2010 Mustang GT

Ford decided to give the 2010 a mini-facelift. The new redesign was still on the same S197 platform was noticeably different. The front and rear bumper covers were reshaped, the taillights were changed, and quarter panels were visibly different. Interior upgrades were also made, and options such as a voice activated navigation, and backup camera was now available. Performance got a small boost and the GT now produced 315 horsepower and 325 lbs. ft. of torque.
