Viper SRT-10 Engine Specs

Perhaps the most impressive, and distinguished feature about the Viper SRT-10 is the powertrain. The SRT-10 came with a 10-cylinder 8.4L 90-degree V-type liquid cooled engine. With 505 cubic inches, it had a 4.055 x 3.96 bore and stroke, low inertia aluminum flywheel with steel wear surface, and 10.2:1 compression ratio. For the intake, Dodge gave the Viper SRT-10 engine a three-piece shell molded, vibration-welded composite construction (for improved flow) design – it was also lightweight and had improved thermal performance. The 20V engine with pushrod actuated valve has roller style hydraulic lifters. The Viper SRT-10 engine is constructed with an aluminum alloy block with cast-iron liners, forged-aluminum pistons, forged-steel crankshaft, and aluminum-alloy heads.

Viper SRT-10 Drivetrain

For such a powerful motor, Dodge had to back the SRT-10 with a pretty substantial transmission. All Viper SRT-10 models came with a manual transmission, standard. The six-speed overdrive transmission in the Viper SRT-10 featured synchronized gears; electronic 1-4 skip shift, and a reverse lockout.

Viper SRT-10 Chassis/Suspension/Steering/Brakes

The basics of the Viper SRT-10 were built around the same front engine, rear wheel drive design. It has a backbone tubular steel space frame and separate cowl. Dodge designed the Dodge Viper SRT-10 based on wind-tunnel tuning to come up with the best, most aerodynamic body possible. The suspension features a cast-aluminum unequal-length upper and lower “A” arms, coil springs, high-pressure gas-charged rebound-adjustable shock absorbers, stabilizer bar, and six lug wheel hubs. Dodge gave the Viper SRT-10 a power-assisted rack and pinion. One of the more notable upgrades was to the world class braking system. The Viper SRT-10 got four-piston fixed calipers with pizza style 14” rotors – this system gained the Dodge Viper a 80 foot decrease in stopped distance from 100 to 0 mph.
